a girl died in front of our house

a car crashed into a telephone pole early tuesday morning. at the site on wednesday night there were around 100 people at a prayer vigil. they left two pictures of her. she looked like a teenager– i believe her name was charesse.
yesterday, everytime i passed our dining room window and deck, i looked at the candles and balloons left for her. during the day, there were various people who stopped by for a few minutes– some who knew her; some who were just on their daily walk.
i do not know the details of why the car crashed. drinking or drugs? texting? fell asleep at the wheel? i just know that it is tragic
josie, my sister in law, lives 40 yards away from this site. when my brother died from a heart attack in their living room in 2000, one of the lessons that i took to heart was that life is fragile and that there are no guarantees. tragedy can strike at any moment; life can be taken from us in an instant.
i pray consolation for charesse’s family and friends. i pray that she finds peace resting in the Lord’s loving embrace. i pray that we all value the gift of life at all levels and never take it for granted
May she rest in peace.
I am so relieved that Josie , her family and their home were spared from the physical damages of this accident.
Stay safe Father Art.
